I’ve been browsing old photos today, and just found this one, from the Warhol museum sometime back in 2005. Fun to see all the covers together.

I’m not a big admirer of gold jewelry, but these delicate little monogram necklaces from Albeit have completely won me over. Buy them here.

Wilco at Berkeley - Mikey Burton

Mikey Burton makes great work. Here is something new, a commemorative poster for Wilco’s performance at The Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA (18 x 24, 2-color screen-print). Buy it here, only $25.

NYC Metro Bracelet

We posted this bracelet from Tiffany Burnette’s coroflot portfolio a couple weeks ago. Turns out, this product is a real product and can be purchased for the low low price of $25 shipped. Buy it here, that’s a heck of a bargain.

Spec Watch

Spec Watch is a new site devoted to revealing the naked truth about design contests & crowdsourcing.

Design contests and crowdsourcing have been marketed as the “future of graphic design”, a “new reality”, call themselves “disruptive” and their stated goal (as per Forbes) is, “to slash the cost of graphic design work and democratize a snooty business.” Critics have been called “Dinosaurs”, “gatekeepers fighting hard to maintain the status quo”, advised to “evolve or die” and other such sentiments. Crowdsourcing and design contests have been likened to a movement aimed to turn the graphic design industry “on it’s head”. Crowdsourcing sites’ management have “welcomed the debate” about spec work, and are very vocal about defending their business model on blogs, forums and some have even participated in a SXSW panel debate entitled “Is Spec Work Evil”.

Spec Watch keeps an eye on, and documents, many of the crowdsourcing design sites across the internet. While in no way unbiased – Spec Watch provides startling facts about these sites and design contests in general. View their site here, or just follow them on Twitter @specwatch for all the content and help fight against design contests, crowdsourcing and spec work.

In a Pinch Chair

I have a love/hate relationship with minimal modernist furniture. In general, I love the design of it. However, design should include functionality/comfort and sometimes that is compromised for the cleanest lines. Other times they nail the look, nail the functionality – and sometimes when that happens it’s no longer accessible to regular people, as they can price chairs at thousands of dollars.

So when I saw this chair on BLTD, I wondered that the catch was? It’s a sweet looking chair for the affordable price of $128 and has a strange name. The chair is for sale at Urban Outfitters, and designed by Blu Dot.

My skepticism immediately questions the structural integrity of the chair. $128 isn’t much money for a chair, especially one that only has a couple metal bars preventing the chair from turning me into a human clothespin if it collapses. For those of you who don’t know me personally, I’m a large human being. I’ve snapped legs off of my fair share of those plastic lawn chairs, resulting in me on my ass. Would this chair hold me? How about if I were sitting in it and my (fictional) girlfriend leaped into my masculine arms? Would the chair buckle under the weight and/or lust?

If this chair can stand up to that, it’s a hell of a buy. It’s quite a looker. Buy it here, or I’m guessing you can probably see it at your local Urban Outfitters store.

flavorpaper

In recent years, I’ve developed quite a crush on wallpaper and I’ve always thought it would be fun to design it for a living. Then I discovered Flavor Paper. Having survived Hurricane Katrina, Flavor Paper (located in the Bywater District of New Orleans) continues to produce custom, handscreened wallcoverings (not to mention their own wide array of floral, funky, geometric and traditional designs). Now I’m sure the whole process costs a pretty penny, but when your friends ask you where you got your kick ass wallpaper and you can tell them you designed it, aren’t the bragging rights worth it?
