Adobe Photoshop for the iPhone

Yesterday, Adobe released Photoshop.com Mobile for the iPhone. It’s essentially a very stripped down version of Adobe’s long-running popular photo-editing software and more recently online free photo-editing software available at photoshop.com. They have managed to bring basic photo editing features to a mobile device in an easy-to-use, lightweight application. The best part? It’s completely free.
The abilities of the software include: Crop, Rotate, Flip, Exposure, Saturation, Tint, Black & White, Sketch, Soft Focus and a number of filter/effects. I’ve chosen a lovely photo to demonstrate some of the interface. Grab your nearest low quality David Hasselhoff shirtless photo and take a look at what this mobile app can do.
The crop tool works just as you expect it to. Your finger moves the box around, and adjusts the corners for the right crop. The crop tool even auto-locks to the side of the photo if you get close enough to make sure you are on the edge. The rotate and flip tool are also intuitive and straight-forward. A flick of the finger and tap the checkbox.
Exposure, saturation and tint all share the same technique. After selecting an option, you slide your finger from side to side, adjusting the strength of the effect as you move your finger. It’s easy to finely tune your image to the desired effect.
It wouldn’t be a Photoshop product without cheesy effects and filters. You can easily ruin any photo with a nice selection of predefined effects reminiscent of Apple’s Photo Booth software. There is also a sketch filter which adjusts strength in the same way exposure/saturation do.
Overall, it’s a cool little app that’s worth… well nothing… because it’s free. I don’t see a reason they couldn’t charge a few dollars for this. It definitely feels well-made and robust for what it is.
All of this comes in addition to the photoshop.com free photo service online which gives you a place to put your photos online, create albums, and is integrated with facebook, flickr, photobucket & picasa.

There is no such thing as a low quality shirtless David Hasselhoff photo. He’s a high quality, high class gentleman. Except when he eats Wendy’s while intoxicated.
This is very true and I’m embarrassed by my faux pas.
