This short film by C. Coy features Milton Glaser and his feelings on drawing. I could listen to Glaser talk for hours about pretty much anything.

I understand that drawing is a skill which heightens awareness beyond simple observation, but I’m a bit confused as to how he chose to demonstrate his point. The drawing created in the video consists of a series of commonly executed symbols stylized to personify his vision of Shakespeare. Drawing in the manner he mentions, in my opinion, consists of translating what is being observed on to paper without questioning preconceptions of facial features. You simply draw what you see and try to stay out of your own way.
I have the deepest respect for Mr. Glaser. I just feel as though I missed something.
