Kellogg’s to test ‘branding’ each corn flake
Oct 14th,
2009
According to the Daily Mail, Kellogg’s cereal is going to begin testing a way to laser-etch their logo onto each individual corn flake they sell. They believe this will help solidify their brand even further and reiterate that imitators are just that, imitators. Is this a smart way for a premium brand to differentiate itself from the pack? Or is this just dumb and unnecessary? What do you think?

Im torn between thinking how cool it is and thinking that it’s a lot worse than dumb and unnecessary. I like it because it’s novel but when it came to actually putting a spoonful in my mouth it would just seem weird.
I think the average consumer will find it so artificial, processed and just plain intrusive, (someone wrote on my cereal!?) they’ll just go buy breakfast products from General Mills.
The worst backlash since new Coke and a lot harder to recover from.
i cant imagine that this would make the cereal cheaper. so why is it necessary
Being an “official” Kellogg, I guess I can state only the facts. To help protect our Corn Flakes from imitators, I asked for sharks with freakin’ lasers attached to their heads, I left work and later got a memo from Tony the Tiger showing me the picture above. I guess they thought this is what I really wanted and implemented the process. Ugh. Sharks with lasers on their heads, and laser etched cornflakes. How are those the same! Good thing Tony is an endangered species, and my uncle.
