Over Thanksgiving weekend, the Kent State VCD community was deeply saddened to learn that Professor Eric May has passed away.

Eric’s passion for typography and letterpress, along with his quiet humor and positive attitude, were legendary among Kent State VCD alumni. As a former student of his, I feel truly blessed to have known and been taught by Eric. He will be missed.

For those who would like to send a condolence card, please address it to Eric’s children: Tom, Liz and Kate, at 456 Port Drive, Akron, Ohio, 44319.

Adrien Donot, a graphic designer from Paris, shows us in this video that we shouldn’t judge ourselves based on models – because it’s easy to turn an already pretty person into ‘perfection’ with Photoshop.

(As a sidenote, I’m not quite sure why he flattens his layers so much…?..)

post3richcutawaypostReally gorgeous illustration work from Rich Gemmell makes coming back from Thanksgiving a little bit more enjoyable. I love the muted palettes and drawn details in the little camper. See more of his amazing work here.

Nate Williams had put together a nicely thought-out, cohesive guide/open discussion about this oft-debated topic. What do you guys think?  Nate also shares some polls he’s conducted on illustration mundo about this. Feel free to check out his post and discuss.

The pictures are just breathtaking and it blows me away places like this are real and moments like this happen and are even caught on film. See more of the contenders and vote for your favorite here. You can also read about 25 of the moments captured here.
