Words is a video by Everynone, in collaboration with WNYC’s Radiolab and NPR. No need to explain, just watch for yourself. It took me a few views to ‘get it,’ you’ll find yourself going back through it a few times. Enjoy!

Horrible Adorables are creatures from the imagination of fellow Clevelander Jordan Elise. Her cruelty-free, faux taxidermy sculptures are just the right amount of cute with a dash of fairytale oddity. They are made from a styrofoam base and hand-covered in beautiful multi-colored felt pieces. They even have real taxidermy-grade eyeballs! Can’t wait to get one for myself. Check out her whole collection at her Etsy shop.

I love “cute” as much as anyone, but there’s nothing like a getting a little bite with your sweet. When I saw Scott Hove’s images from his installation Cakeland, my jaw DROPPED. This is some amazing shit. The purpose of Cakeland, from Scott’s website:

The sculptures, with their display of beauty and potential for satisfaction, lure the viewer into a sense of anticipation. The viewer will slowly notice that Cakeland contains defensive elements, not immediately seen, that create a sense of anxiety and fear. This in turn creates a visual and emotional resonance that is intended to represent what we all have to deal with in our lives everyday…the hunt for satisfaction, and the anxiety that we won’t get it.

The detail in the decoration and pairing of sweet and evil is perfection. Would love to visit it someday, however the 360 degree video tour will have to do. (Oh and no, you can’t eat the cakes. They’re not real).

Made in the 216 is an annual like-no-other event put on by Room Service that celebrates all things handmade in Cleveland. This year’s boutique is June 11th and 12th, and is sure to be the biggest yet. The two-day event boasts music, drinks, food, fun, and handmade gifts and art from the lovely 216. You do NOT want to miss this, every year I am blown away by the beautiful display of goods and talent. I’m excited and honored to be a part of it this year, so come see some of my work and the work of other proud Clevelanders!

If you’re participating, tell us in the comments so we can look out for your stuff :)

Sara Blake (also known under the moniker ‘Zso’) has a completely mindblowing portfolio of work that shows a true harmony between the handmade and digital worlds. She begins with a pen and ink or pencil drawing and manipulates/paints digitally. There are quite a few time lapse videos of her process on her site, so be sure to check those out as well to see the magic happen.

Fell onto the Polite. Cards site and have been digging through for quite some time. They carry a range of postcards, greeting cards, books, and a few witty products done by a small smattering of artists. Laugh at them all here and see more after the jump.

shibafutable01

The Shibafu Table, by Emmanuelle Moureaux is a table with 56 slender colored acrylic feet randomly arranged into a table top of transparent acrylic. “The sticks support the transparent acrylic panel, while refracting and reflecting light as if they were soaking under water.” HOLY SHIT. The way the light is dispersed, it looks like tons more of the rods are in the ‘water’ than are actually there. So cool.
