This may or may not be old to some of you, but I feel like when it comes to design and motivational words, you can never have enough. AIGA’s After School Special: Advice for Emerging Designers has really re-motivated me to do more, learn more and experience more in the career I love. It’s practical advice, yet pushes designers to a new level in the most critical years of our careers: right after graduation. One of the favorite but most challenging pieces of advice following:
Talent will take you far, but determination will take you further. … The truth is, most people aren’t willing to put the time and effort into accomplishing their goals. It’s easier to just live their dreams inside of their heads instead of putting in the sweat equity.

I like this a lot. Sometimes its nice to get a swift kick in the ass to remind you that your goals and dreams won’t just magically happen.

I needed this in the worst way. My recent “trying to have a social life” has reeked havoc on my happiness and commitment to design.
I’m a lifer. I need to face it and embrace it, and maybe I’ll do some good work.

Yeah, I agree I needed it too. It’s nice to know that it isn’t all luck or talent either that can help you in what you do. It’s about your drive, which motivates me even more. I also agree with the lifer. We’re screwed and just need to embrace it! :)
