My personal notebook collection is an ever-changing battle between Moleskines and Field Notes. I love the bigger Moleskines and their quality build, and love the take-anywhere-back-pocket-ability of the Field Notes (plus, I like supporting Draplin & Coudal, the people behind Field Notes).
Moleskine will soon be releasing covers the smartphones and tablets, compatible with iPhone and iPad.
Moleskine introduces two new hybrid tools designed for making it easier the simultaneous use of paper, phone and internet utilities: a Smartphone Cover compatible with iPhone 3G and 3GS, and a Tablet Cover, iPad compatible. Both Covers are combined with blank notebook pages. They are conceived as analog-digital ultra-portable workstations for the contemporary nomads.
The features and style of both Covers are those of a classic Moleskine notebook: sleek rounded corners, strong elastic band, and the legendary smooth black cover. Inside, a lighter suede lining protects the electronic device against impact and scratches, alongside a Volant notebook with plain pages. The Smartphone Cover is mainly conceived to be used with Bluetooth, headphones or loud speaker. Smartphone and Tablet Covers add to the first piece in the Folio Digital collection, the e-Reader Cover for Kindle.
The iPhone cover seems a bit odd, I don’t think the use of a phone doesn’t make sense tied down to a notebook — but I feel it makes perfect sense with an iPod Touch or an iPad. It’s just a matter of time until I buy an iPad and this may follow shortly as my case of choice.
Sign up on Amazon to be notified when these will be available. Moleskine currently offers these for the Kindle for $30 (and paper refills for $5), so expect the price to be in that ballpark. Are you getting one?

I just received my Dodo case (http://www.dodocase.com/) for my iPad and love it. It is very Moleskin like in aesthetic with the addition of hand-shaped bamboo protection.

Putting the iPad on the left makes it very uncomfortable, especially if I was going to be sketching for any length of time. It looks as though it also makes for a heavy cover. I guess being a true lefty, I can make this argument.

Those Dodos look nice. Have been wondering how people enjoy various cases.

Ooooh. I always rant about how new products are made simply so marketers can market the masses a new coinciding product, but THIS makes me forget all that. Ahhh, Moleskine, I don’t care if you’re made in China, you are good design, and I instantly want you. Please let me have you.

Ha, Rachel — so true. So many useless crap cases out there that accompany these flagship products.
