The Magic of 1980s Sports Posters

What a great collection of classic 80s sports posters. There’s something so nostalgic about this series. Could it be the classic sports nicknames or the overly exaggerated narratives that make it a great sale? Maybe it’s my age or upbringing, but these posters take me back to my memories of the 1995 Men’s Basketball Olympic Dream Team and Super Soakers. 95′ was a good year for sports and water guns for that matter, which is besides the point. See these and more at Colt Rane.

Hitler reacts to SOPA

Watch this while you can. Because under SOPA, this video would be illegal, and they could remove YouTube.com if youtube fails to proactively censor each user, along with this website.

SOPA Breaks the Internet

In case you’ve been living under a rock, check out this video from Fight for the Future explaining the new bill: SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act.

The bill’s concept is to give the power to large Hollywood entertainment corporations to sue any website that has ANY copywritten material on it, whether it’s posted by the website owners, or its users. The government would have the power to block these sites, would force search engines to blacklist these sites, and would block advertising revenue from going to these sites.

The potential for abuse of power here is enormous. Watch the video, it succinctly explains why this is a dangerous bill, how it’s gained traction from lobbyists, and what you need to do to be heard.

Under SOPA, we would have to police and censor anyone commenting on this blog, who posts links to anything… for fear that our site would be blocked. Facebook and Twitter would have to censor you as well. All so Justin Bieber gets his money.

Frankly, I’m not censoring any readers. So, under SOPA, it’d just be a matter of time before this site would go away.

This bill is close to passing. Annoy the hell out of your congressman, make your voice heard while you can.

I leave you with this infographic:

New York Types

Last night at the Art Directors Club gallery in NYC, New York Writes Itself presented the first view of the New York Types exhibition.

The sold-out show featured posters of words heard on the city streets brought to life in letterpress. While sipping vino and in creative company, I couldn’t help but snap photos of the work.

The letterpress artists created limited editions of the prints from the show for purchase. Or, if you’re in the city and want to see the stellar posters for yourself, the show runs through January 5th.
