Making of the The Harrow & The Harvest album cover

Interviews with Aardvark Letterpress, John Dyer Baizley, Gillian Welch, and David Rawlings about the making of the letterpressed album cover insert for The Harrow & The Harvest, the new 2011 Gillian Welch album.

The Elevation Dock

Shared by every major tech blog under the sun, the Elevation Dock has broken Kickstarter records. It’s a beautifully designed iPhone dock made from a solid block of aluminum, just like your Macbook — is weighted so it doesn’t move when you remove your phone — and fits cases. It’s long been funded — but become a backer and you’ll get one of the first ones, for less than retail.

The video is well made, illustrating why iPhone docks suck and how they solve for it. We need more accessories like this. It’ll come in aluminum, black, & some colors – but why would you’d buy an Apple accessory that doesn’t match the aluminum is beyond me.

Dirty Bandits 2012 Calendar of Silly Holidays

Dirty Bandits have a pretty cool calendar in preparation for 2012:

5th ever calendar of all real holidays for a brand new year of finding something wonderfully silly to celebrate every month! Calendars are for sale through etsy with both a digital and screen printed version this year.

May 4th is my favorite holiday. Buy these on their Etsy shop before they’re gone! www.etsy.com/shop/dirtybandits

Hero

Miguel Endara recently finished a portrait of a dad using over 3.2 million dots. I’m not usually a huge fan of ‘process’ videos but I think this one captures what goes into each piece and the amount of time it takes to complete one. Enjoy.

A Lovely Tale

A Lovely Tale, a Kickstarter project by Ariel Body, will be a photo book that imaginatively recreates the fairytale of childhood using a combination of photography and computer generated imagery. Ariel is less than $250 away from her goal, with 5 days left to go! Ariel reached her goal, congrats!

The book will contain a collection of photographs that will seek to visualize the essence of a time and place in a relatable and photorealistic way. I will use computer generated imagery in conjunction with photography to blur the boundaries of real and imagined while creating photos that tell an untold but deeply real story.

The series will be accompanied by a selection of short essays that contemplate things related to photography and memory as well a discussion on the use of digital technology to recreate the imagined.

Check out the entire writeup on Kickstarter, and chip in a few bucks to put her over the top.

Be Merry: Holiday Goodies

Gearing up for the holiday season? Our very own Gwen Bucknell has produced some holiday goodies that we are happy to be offering on Etsy.

‘Be Merry’ was designed by Gwen for her personal Christmas cards last year and has now been adapted into a line of holiday stationery for us! The custom lettering was inspired by ribbons and her handwriting. Each piece was silk-screened on French Paper and lovingly assembled — all by hand.

Head over to our Etsy shop and pick up some cards and tags before they’re all gone!

Oh — don’t forget to decorate your computer, download the free desktop wallpaper.

‘Tis the season, after all.

Go Forth and Create

2012 calendar by Alexander Sprungle

2012 calendar by Alexander Sprungle

I know I can’t be the only one out there – I have a thing for calendars. For 2011, I have 4 calendars on and around my work space. And that was keeping it limited!

I’m loving this 2012 calendar made by Alexander Sprungle (aka Made by Ramm) – cats, mustaches, and hand lettering are a pretty quick way to win me over, but the color combinations are some of my favorites too! This calendar is definitely going to be hanging on my wall next year.

Make sure to purchase your very own 2012 calendar (only $15!) – Go Forth and Create.

We posted about Alexander’s work before, and he does some stellar work – I think he’s one to keep an eye on. See more of Alexander’s work here and keep up on Twitter, @ACSprungle.
