Steve Jobs’ wonderful 2005 Stanford Commencement Speech ends with a quote from a catalog “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.” — and I intend to live my life that way.
I’ve been trying to figure out something insightful to say about the passing of Steve Jobs, but nothing I write seems to capture my thoughts. I don’t wanna talk about iPods or phones or even the fact that I have a career partly because of his team’s work.
Every time someone passes away from cancer, I’m reminded of my little sister, my partner in crime, who passed away from cancer 4 years ago. Things like this bring that back like it was yesterday. It reminds us that this terrible disease can strike anyone.
Tonight, I urge you to spend $25.
• Go to the local pub, and raise a glass to Steve Jobs, the greatest visionary of the last 25 years.
• Then, donate the remaining $20 to the American Cancer Society.
We gotta find a cure for this.
Thanks for everything, Steve. You will be missed.

Andy Luce: New Express Muffler & Brake
So, my dudebro Andy Luce just finished this kick ass hand-lettered wall for a muffler shop here in Chicago.
New Express is a Muffler & Brake shop in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. I developed and hand-lettered the type, then painted it onto the shop over a few day period. I’m so excited about the finished job!

Celebrating One Year of Good Advice
This September marks the one year anniversary and fifth TDP posting (We realize – we may have abused our posting privileges) of Good Fucking Design Advice a collaborative project between TDP contributors, Brian Buirge and Jason Bacher. To celebrate this momentous occasion, they’ve released a feature video on their newly redesigned site “Getting Shit Done: The Passion Behind G.F.D.A.”
G.F.D.A originally started as a humorous side project while in graduate school and his since has taken off. During its first year G.F.D.A. released a series of products designed to inspire the masses including desktop wallpapers, shirts, posters, coffee mugs and buttons. As the six-month mark came around, they determined that the workload of site (in addition to their other responsibilities) had become too great and thus the two hired their first intern, Eric Courtney, for the summer of 2011.
A logo a day – branding Minnesota’s 10,000 Lakes
Designer Nicole Meyer has taken on a large task – that of creating a logo a day for Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes. She figures it will only take a little over 27 years. No big deal.
