Soul Pancake

The Office‘s Rainn Wilson (and a team of others) just launched an online community/forum/website called Soul Pancake that allows users to sign up, post their own questions, and engage in discussions about life’s big issues. It’s a really neat initiative, you can also get updates on the latest discussions on twitter. Here’s the definition of Soul Pancake from the horse’s mouth:

“We want to make discussions about Spirituality, Creativity, and Philosophy cool again. Were they ever cool? I have no idea. But it seems like a good idea. We want to engage the user to “Chew on Life’s Big Questions”™. (I was kidding about the ™ symbol; you can use that phrase however you want. Even to sell frozen taquitos.) Where do you go on the Interwebs if you want an irreverent, fun, and profound take on God and Art and the Soul and Faith and Beauty? Fox.com? Maybe. But maybe also here at SoulPancake.com…”

Have fun, and happy pancake-ing! (??)

Randomly choosing Olympic Designers… what??

Quipsologies posted this news about companies learning that based on a questionaire about their company, random companies will be chosen for the 2012 Olympics.

“Back in February, the Olympic Delivery Authority advertised for design and print services via CompeteFor. Sparks submitted its portfolio (only three images are allowed) and filled out the questionnaire which asks for details on areas such as liability insurance and number of employees but nothing to do with how good your work might be. Yesterday the studio learnt that its bid had been unsuccessful. It scored 94% on the questionnaire, while the average score of shortlisted bidders was 100%.”…. Read the full article here.

Updating Craigslist

Usability is priority…. Or is it? A very interesting article about redesigning the infamous Craigslist can be found on Smashing Magazine this week. While there are plenty of reasons to leave the successful site as is, there are also plenty of reasons to update. See the list and read the article here.

The No. 17 inspires me with their comics and I love re-reading this one especially. Keeps any designer in check.
