Asperger East Anglia

Asperger East Anglia is a non-profit organization in the UK dedicated to serving those in the local region who suffer from Asperger Syndrome. The Click Design has put together a wonderfully simple and equally beautiful refresh for the existing brand. The result is a smart, effective system that connects with each of its audiences on a variety of levels. This is some exemplary design work. More images after the jump.

Canadian Olympic Team

Olympic campaigns always tend to get the spotlight when it comes to the design unavailing. The campaigns are thought out and expanded across a variety of media. Some of the most notable designs that come to mind are the ’68 Mexico Olympics, ’72 Munich Olympics and most recently the ’08 Beijing Olympics . In this case the Canadian National Olympic Team had a design unavailing.

The new look for the Canadian team is really fresh and youthful. In the video below the designers go into detail about the symbolic nature of the maple leaf and how that is at the center of the design. One of the main typefaces used is Stratum by Process Type Foundry. Ben Hulse headed up the project. He was also involved in the Vancouver Olympics Identity.

Dieter Rams: As Little Design as Possible

The studio in Mr. Rams's home in 1971

Published by Phaidon, Dieter Rams: As Little Design as Possible chronicles Ram’s life and development as a designer. The forward of the book is written by Apple’s Jonathan Ive.

It is worth buying the book just to read his description of his first encounter with Mr. Rams’s work, a 1972 MPZ 2 Citromatic juicer in his parents’ kitchen. “It was clearly made from the best materials, not the cheapest,” he wrote. “No part appeared to be hidden or celebrated, just perfectly considered and completely appropriate. At a glance, you knew exactly what it was and how to use it. It was the essence of juicing made material: a static object that perfectly described the process by which it worked. It felt complete and it felt right.”

The book is officially released this coming Monday and you can get it here on amazon (and many other places).

Vintage Irish Book Covers

Check out this simple but excellent blog of vintage Irish book covers dated between 1920–1970. The updates are sporadic but there is plenty of content and a lot of good opportunities for some inspiration. I highly recommend perusing through them with a tall glass of Guinness.

Music For Dieter Rams

Clip from album cover

A co-worker introduced this to me late last week and I’ve been totally fascinated with the concept and the music.

Music for Dieter Rams by Jon Brooks is (From the sleevenotes) a mini-album. A study on limited resources. The space between a second. A dedication to one of the most important figures in modern domestic design – Dieter Rams. No more, no less. Less and More.

Every sound on this record, from the melodic sounds to the percussion, the atmospheric effects to the bass lines originates from the Braun AB-30 alarm clock.

You can give the album a listen to here. It’s also available for purchase on iTunes.

Also, if you want to purchase the aforementioned alarm clock, you can find it here (among many other places).
