Land of the Free?

There’s a shirt up over at Threadless that is spot-the-fuck-on. It’s so good they fast-tracked it to printing, skipping most of the voting process. Land of the Free? was designed by David Vincent Wolf and is $18.

I wonder what happens if you wear this sucker thru airport security?

News+ for iPad

What if we invented the newspaper today instead of 150 years ago?

Bonnier asked themselves this question and came up with News+ for iPad. News+ combines the depth and editorial choices of a daily newspaper with the web’s possibilities for interaction and quick updates.

This concept and the conceptual Future of Books from IDEO point to an exciting new direction in how we read periodical publications digitally.

This is more than just a concept. They are beginning with a couple foreign newspapers very soon. Keep up with News+ at bonnier.com/newsplus.

“It Gets Better” — Love, Pixar

Pixar has contributed to the It Gets Better Project.

It’s nice to see a company have a point of view, and use its voice positively, instead of worrying that they may offend someone.

Desktime – Shared Desks and Coworking

Desktime - Shared Desks and Coworking in Chicago

Desktime - Shared Desks and Coworking in Chicago

Desktime is a web application created to help connect creative people with creative workspaces.

Why build Desktime, you ask? We believe people and real-estate just don’t know how to interact these days. We think 1-year, 3-year and 5-year leases are history. We see (hell, we live it) that working from the same place everyday just doesn’t make sense. Bottom line: we believe a fundamental change in the way people value and use the “office” is imminent. Why not give people the ability to work from their apartment one afternoon, and a badass office in the heart of the city the next?

Desktime has a great web interface that makes it easy to find a desk to work based on hours open, parking, meeting spaces, available resources and of course location. The homepage is a cool site overlayed/integrated with Google maps. The listings are nicely laid out, with big photos of the spaces, and all the information you need. Booking is easy.

The site also works beautifully on mobile devices, Android or iOS. Visiting the site allows you to browse desks close to your current GPS location, see details and photos of the space, and call/email right from the site.

Desktime Mobile Web

Desktime is currently a Chicago-only service, but they plan on expanding soon to other cities, so bookmark www.desktimeapp.com for the next time you need a change of scenery, or have some space you’d like to rent out.

Hate/Love

This video entitled Hate/Love was the opening created for the 2010 Advertising & Design Club of Canada (ADCC) Awards. It was making the rounds around the office yesterday so I thought I’d share it. Sort of encompasses my daily rollercoaster of emotions.

Linotype on Kickstarter

When a trailer for Linotype: The Film was released a while back, we were quick to share it. Now the guys behind the movie are busy filming and using Kickstarter to help fund the rest of the project.

In the next 30 days they are hoping to raise $8,000 to finish the movie.

If you’re not familiar with the Kickstarter model, it’s a place where you can fund projects you’re interested in seeing come to fruition. You pledge any amount of money, and the money is only exchanged hands if/when the project reaches its goal. If it doesn’t, you don’t pay anything and it just goes away.

Linotype has a few different pledge levels which include letterpressed posters, copies of the DVD, t-shirts, actual lines of lead type, and other goodies. Head over to Kickstarter and pledge even just a few bucks to help finish this film, or check out their website (www.linotypefilm.com) to stay up to speed on the progression of the movie.

Remedy Quarterly Holiday Gift Bundles

Kelly of Remedy Quarterly, who we were proud to have helped promote way back when they were on Kickstarter, emailed us to share their holiday bundle package.

Remedy Quarterly is bundling up Volume 1 (Issues 1-4) for a very special holiday gift. Issues 1-3 will be tied with bakers twine and a personalized gift tag, with issue 4 to be sent out before it hits newsstands. Volume 1 is $28 with free shipping in North America or get volumes 1 & 2 for $55.00.

Remedy Quarterly started not unlike our blog – a group of friends who just started doing something they cared about.

What is Remedy Quarterly?
Wondering what Remedy Quarterly is? We’re happy you asked! A year in the making, Remedy Quarterly started as an idea amongst friends. That home remedies, and by association home cooking and recipes, are as comforting to share and read about as they are to actually consume. Food is a universal topic and people everywhere have memories, emotions, and thoughts on the topic. We wanted to document some of those memories and the recipes behind them. Share them the way community groups often exchange and appropriate recipes. Each issue comes packed with stories and each of those comes with a recipe; most are delicious, some are hilarious.

We hope you’ll support the good people over at Remedy Quarterly and give a cool gift to the foody in your life. www.remedyquarterly.com
