‘Visitors’ by IshootRockstars

Visitors by IshootRockstars

If you’re in Chicago this Friday, I expect to have a drink with you at the Visitors party:

Join us for this one night only special event celebrating the culmination of the VISITORS project, a year long photography project that featured a portrait of everyone who visited the home of Kyle LaMere for one year.

We’re throwing this special event to raise money to self-publish 319 VISITOR coffee table books for you to enjoy! Yes, only 319 books will be printed to represent each VISITOR. You can pre-order your book here or at the event only.

To buy a ticket or pre-order a book, visit www.ishootrockstars.com/visitors. And awesomely, all proceeds go to the charity Reason to Give.

Over 170 have RSVP’d on Facebook, so all the cool kids are going to be there.

826DC: The Museum of Unnatural History

The Unnatural Society / 826 logo

Beautiful designs by Oliver Munday for the Museum of Unnatural History in DC. I love the early 20th century aesthetic and the typography is gorgeous. He even uses my favorite typeface, Tribute. I stumbled across this via an article on Good Magazine. More images here as well.

J.Pap’s Diecut Drawings

j.pap_1
J.Pap is an art director and graphic designer. I’m amazed at his set of diecut packaging drawings on Flickr. For the last year, he’s turned every-day packaging into works of art by flattening then composing detailed illustrations on the inside. Created with no commercial intent, he says:

The shape of the package usually suggests which way the drawing is going to go. That being said, there is very little forethought.

Check out the rest of his Flickr set here. Click on for additional packages.

The Desk

Here’s a nice short about the desk, the creative, and our lives.

Playbutton Music Player

Playbutton is a portable music player with the wearability of a small button and the function of an iPod (sort of). The small, disc-shaped button (complete with original album art) is programmed with an entire album and plays just like a CD would, while small controls on the back allow for pausing and skipping tracks. The little player is set to be available starting this month. This is a little novelty, but a fun alternative to having to keep an iPod or iPhone in your pocket or on your desk.

Zeichen Press is Fran & Jen Shea, a Minneapolis-based letterpressing duo. Their collection ranges from postcards to mixtape cases. They combine vintage art, bold, simple design with wit and humor. Well done.

Zeichen’s alphabet posters are available to purchase at Room & Board. You can also shop online here.

Web Designers vs. Web Developers

I hate to say it. It’s true. But I think our designer t-shirts are way cooler than that Helvetica one.

OK Go ‘Last Leaf’ stop-motion toast video

When I bought OK Go’s most recent album a while back for a friend, the song Last Leaf was an instant favorite for me. OK Go has a history of creating interesting music videos, and this one is no exception. The entire video is created with stop-motion images of scenes burnt on slices of toast. It had to take an eternity, but it’s worth it.
