One of Northeast Ohio’s own, Freeze-Tag, recently dropped his Tidal Wave Remix EP over at Keep on Repeat and it’s been playing in my headphones for a few days now. This video is from the original EP. Listen to the remix EP after the jump.
Hillman Curtis 1961–2012
Yesterday, legend Hillman Curtis passed away at age 51 of cancer. His loss will be felt by many in the variety of industries he touched. Curtis had a long career as a musician, designer, author… and most recently a filmmaker, which is how I came to know of him.
Curtis’ Artist Series videos inspired me as a young designer in a way few other things had. We’ve shared a few of his videos on this site over time. His James Victore video (below) still gives me goosebumps. Curtis is able to bring to life James’ intense passion for wielding the spiked club we all have as designers. I later took James’ poster workshop at SVA, which violently changed my outlook on design while still in college.
“Most everything I’ve learned in film or otherwise has been by just diving in and doing it.”

Here are a few of our favorite from his Artists Series. Check out the rest of his films at hillmancurtis.com.

Jason Lee’s Creative Photography
The creative mind of children never ceases to amaze me. Add on a creative dad that can bring your imaginative ideas to life? Pretty amazing.
Photographer Jason Lee didn’t want his ill mother to miss out on her grandchildren just because they were sick with colds all the time. So he started a blog so that she could keep up their lives and apparently their never ending creative ideas.
Thanks to my friend, Andy, for this find! (via bored panda)
From the Flat Files of Paul Sahre
I think we can safely assume that most graphic designers (or at least those with any interest in print) have a stash of random posters, garbage, or paper goods stashed away in their workspace. Having shit to be inspired by is important. What can be even more inspirational is when it comes from the flat file of someone else.

Hipster Branding

This is what the world would look like if “hipsters” had their way. Definitely seems like an interesting and fun project.

Guns by Eclectic Method
Wether you like them or not, this awesome remix by Eclectic Method is loaded with guns.
Music Monday: Jessie Ware – 110%
Jessie Ware just dropped a new single titled 110%. It’s pretty great. Happy Monday.
Caine’s Arcade
If this video has taught me anything, it’s that hard work never goes unnoticed. Regardless of Caine’s age, his entrepreneurial spirit, unwavering determination, and most importantly, creativity, should serve as an inspiration to all.
Also, as designers, we should remember not to take ourselves too seriously and, that if we want to do something, the only thing stopping us is ourselves. Enjoy!
