I take a lot of self-portraits. Each piece tells something about my day, representing either a feeling, thought, or event relevant enough to inspire emotion, fueling my artistic voice. My photographs bear a surreal aesthetic, which comes from the dark, subconsciously controlled ‘corners’ of my mind. Although many of my photographs are staged, they still contain authentic meaning, intended to resonate with the viewer. Some pieces tell stories of fictional characters, many of whom are dramatic personifications of day to day events and emotions. Every photograph I take is a form of therapeutic communication, the therapy bettering me and the communication bettering the viewer.
Many people have created their own 365 photo project, where you take a photo a day, every day. It’s hard to maintain a level of consistent quality.
Glenda Lissette, a 17 year-old photographer in the Chicago area shared hers with us, and it’s pretty stellar. See her in-progress 365 project on her flickr.
