Typodarium 2011 CalendarTypodarium 2011 Calendar

On February 25th, Typodarium opened its 2011 Call for Entries. 160 font-labels and designers signed in and filled up all 365 days in 42 hours! You can still sign in here for a waiting list as some of the contributions may be rejected.

In case you missed it, here’s our post from this year’s Typodarium calendar.

I currently have the 2010 version on my desk, and love it! My favorite so far has been Surface Medium, the font for Tuesday, February 2nd. Why? Because the description on the back simply says “Carly Gilligan. Would you marry me?”

Purchase your 2011 Typodarium calendar here.

CSI-courier-new

Anyone who has ever watched an episode of CSI Miami can totally relate to this. I love how Horatio is putting sun glasses on over his sun glasses.

Adhesive Nr. SevenAdhesive Nr. SevenAdhesive Nr. SevenAdhesive Nr. Seven

Check out this typeface called Adhesive Nr. Seven. The idea was to take a blackletter typeface out of its tainted historical context by recreating its texture with contemporary tools. With its fixed stroke thickness adhesive paper tape offers similar characteristics as a broad pen.

This is a really cool way to produce a typeface, and pretty well executed. You can purchase Adhesive Nr. Seven at myfonts.com.

Picture 1Picture 4I love me some ampersands! 300&65 Ampersands is a daily calendar with a different ampersand per day for 365 days. Reminds me a little of the Typodarium calendar but with only ampersands. Enjoy your daily dose here.

custom1This has been circulating around, so you may have already seen it, but I thought I’d share anyway. It’s so fun to look back at the fads and trends from the past 10 years. So many of the boxes I would have put in different years; they all seem to blend together! See the full chart on the NY Times, here.

typodarium_2typodarium_28typodarium_4typodarium_8typodarium_18I love this time of year when I get to pick out my calendar for the upcoming one. It’s such a big decision because I get bored so easily, until I found this one. Daily Dose of Type 2010 is 365 days of fonts from designers all over the world and can be your daily inspiration. Each page is backed with a description of each font with it’s creator and where to purchase it. “Bread-and-butter faces, types with character, old masters, and young guns” will fill your year with joy. The only problem I’m having in buying this calendar immediately is that I can only find it in GERMANY. AH! Help! If you do speak German, you can purchase it here. If you find it in the states or are traveling to Germany soon, please pick one up for me. It’d be much appreciated.

More Perfect than Helvetica

Love this. I just need a designer-ladyfriend to give it to. More at TheVoiceThatSaid’s flickr.

show_comic2

A good friend of mine once proclaimed that he would one day release Comic Serif to the world. After years of holding my breath, it looks like type designer Hannes von Döhren beat him to it. HDV Comic Serif was originally released in 2007 but is now available in an OpenType ”Pro” version. Don’t worry, it’s still free.
